A Scandinavian retail chain: one playbook, every store
The same conversion-funnel and dwell measurement in every location, so the best stores stopped being anecdotes and became the template for the rest.
A large Scandinavian retail chain ran the same conversion-funnel and dwell measurement across its locations. The premise was simple: a chain does not need a hundred separate opinions about what works, it needs one measure applied everywhere and the discipline to act on what it shows.
One measure, every store
With every store measured the same way, comparisons stopped being arguments. Footfall, conversion through the funnel and dwell per zone meant the same thing in every location, so differences between stores were real differences in performance, not differences in how someone counted. That is the quiet prerequisite for everything that followed.
What changed
The chain used the measurement to cut marketing costs, optimise staff scheduling and eliminate in-store dead zones. Marketing spend could be judged against measured visits rather than receipts alone; staffing followed the hours when visitors actually came, not the hours tradition assumed; and zones that never pulled visitors were rebuilt or repurposed, with the effect verified by the same measurement that found them.
The point was never a single number. With every store on one playbook, the best stores became the template for the rest, and profitability followed. What “best” meant was no longer a feeling: it was visible, store by store, in the same dashboard.
The chain view
Multi-site retail measurement is its own discipline: rollout logistics, consistent definitions, and a privacy review that happens once rather than per store. The approach is described in full on retail chains and the wider retail practice on visitor analytics for retail. The funnel metrics this chain ran on are explained in in-store conversion rate.
