Bumbee Labs method to measure footfall has been used by Jernhusen since 2018 at the Stockholm Central Station. Stockholm Central Station is one of Sweden’s most visited places.
The data provided by Bumbee Labs adds to the understanding and analysis of how many visitors the Central Station has, their movements, and how much time they spend in the different parts of the station area. The technique and the method are approved by the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection.

Footfall analytics has proven to be important in the planning of logistics and for predictive maintenance at the Stockholm Central Station. By knowing how many visitors are using, for example a specific escalator, the maintenance of the escalator can be planned well in advance and be executed with the least interference for the visitors and travelers.
Besides using the footfall data to measure the number of visitors, a deeper understanding is created of the correlation between which entrance the visitor used and which zones were subsequently visited. This adds to better possibilities to understand and meet the needs of various passenger groups. The Stockholm Central Station acts as host to more than 60 shops and restaurants, and Jernhusen can use Bumbee Labs’ footfall data as a basis for the long-term development of what the station offers.
The expanded cooperation between Bumbee Labs and Jernhusen takes effect through a frame agreement, which makes it possible for more Central Stations in Sweden to connect to the same footfall measurement system. The first two Central Stations to come onboard will be Gothenburg and Malmö, where the installation will take place during the summer of 2022.
