Curate the museum visit, not just the collection
A museum is judged on attendance and impact, yet the visit itself usually goes unmeasured. How many people really came? Which exhibitions held them? Where did the queues and the empty galleries form? Footfall analytics answer all three, anonymously, so you can curate the experience and prove the value.
Real attendance, exhibition by exhibition, anonymous by design.
Why museums choose Bumbee Labs
-
Real attendance, exhibition by exhibition
Total and per-exhibition visits let a temporary show be compared to the permanent collection and to past seasons, more than a ticket total can tell you.
-
Curate the visit itself
Exhibit and gallery dwell time, hot and cold zones and visitor paths show what holds attention and what gets walked past, so you can refine the experience.
-
Measure without identifying anyone
Counted, never identified: anonymous, aggregated and DPA-approved, the trust a cultural institution depends on.
The job to be done
You run a museum or cultural attraction and answer to two audiences at once: the visitors you want to delight, and the funders and board who want to see results. Ticket counts give you a total, but they can’t tell you which exhibitions earned their space, where the visit stalled, or whether the late opening actually moved attendance. Those are the questions that shape next season’s programme and the next funding round.
What you can finally put a number on
- Which shows earn their space. Attendance measured per exhibition, comparable to the permanent collection and to the same season last year, so touring fees and acquisitions are argued from real numbers rather than impressions.
- Where the visit stalls. Dwell time and quiet-gallery data reveal what holds attention and what gets walked past, the evidence for what to keep, move or refresh.
- What goes in the board pack. Anonymous, aggregated attendance and campaign-lift figures you can hand to funders and trustees, with no visitor ever identified.
You get there on the museum’s existing Wi-Fi, with camera or sensor counting added at the entrance or a key room. The full metric set and how it’s delivered sits on the data page, and camera & sensor counting covers the method. For a cultural institution the point is trust: this is the only footfall method in Europe approved by a data protection authority, so you measure the visit while honouring the visitor’s privacy completely.
Where this fits
For the space itself, its galleries, collections, programming and operations, and the Hovet Arena proof, see the museums & cultural venues industry page. As a publicly funded institution you share the same privacy bar, and often the same funders, as cities & municipalities and libraries.

Frequently asked questions
Can we compare a temporary exhibition to the permanent collection?
Yes. Attendance is measured per exhibition as well as in total, so you can put a temporary show side by side with the permanent collection, or with the same season last year.
Will any visitor be identified?
No. Visitors are counted, never identified, and no profiles are built. The measurement is anonymous and aggregated by design, with a data protection authority's approval behind it.
Can we manage queues and crowding at busy shows?
Yes. Crowding data shows queues building at the entrance, ticketing or a blockbuster show close to real time, and which galleries have capacity to spare.
Compliant where it counts
Approved by a data protection authority, so you can measure the visit without ever compromising the visitor. No personal data, ever.
